COUNTRYSIDE

Travel writers have referred to Chelsea as "the quintessential New England Village" a reward for venturing off the beaten track; serenity and authenticity. Chelsea is real Vermont, unadorned and splendidly authentic, absolutely free of gift shoppes, maple fudge emporiums and ersatz tyrolea"

Chelsea Courthouse Common

Uniquely, Chelsea is blessed with two town commons, or parks, where the visitor can relax on a bench or the grass and watch the Vermont country world go slowly by.  Or, you can curl up with one of our books down by the stream or under the apple tree up in our wildflower field on the other side

Under the apple tree on the hill

The more adventuresome will be rewarded with wonderful views of dairy farms of old as they use our bicycles or hiking maps to explore the scenic countryside along our valley, recently designated a Scenic Byway, or on the less traveled backroads and trails in our surrounding hills.

But there is much more within easy reach  by auto. Chelsea is ideally located within an hour of the best of northern Vermont and western New Hampshire. From Lake Champlain to the West to Franconia Notch to the East; Mount Mansfield to the North, Quechee Gorge to the South -- there is much to explore. And we will draw you a map through the most scenic areas along the way.
