Dinner at the Shire Inn is
"a romantic memorable event -- a culinary drama in six acts" ...Vermont Life

Rich & Pam on their anniversary

From appetizer to coffee and dessert, guests of the inn are treated to six courses. Karen, selected a Country Inn Chef of 1994 by the James Beard Foundation, and Jay share the cooking and serving. In an atmosphere that is casual and friendly, you'll enjoy candlelight dining reserved exclusively for inn guests.  You'll select from a choice of three entrees, all of which change daily. A sample...

Three Pepper Rainbow Trout

Rainbow Trout
Boneless fillet of trout, sprinkled with ground, aromatic pink and green peppercorns, sautéed and served with cool sweet red pepper coulis

Chicken Boursin on the back porch

Chicken Boursin
Breast of chicken stuffed with Boursin cheese, baked, served with porcini mushroom-sun dried tomato sauce

Karen's Eggplant Ravioli

Eggplant Ravioli
served with chunky tomato-carrot sauce

Karen maintains a cellar of over 1,000 highly rated wines that are reasonably priced.  Many are available by the glass.  Jay has selected a variety of premium local, national and imported beers.

Dinner is served at 7:00.

To round out your evening, you might return to the parlor to read, play backgammon, chat with new found friends, or just retire to the crackling fire in your room to plan the next day using the inn's tourbook.

A Vermont country breakfast

Breakfast is also a treat.
Coffee or tea, a freshly baked muffin or coffee cake, your choice of juice -- a waffle, French toast or pancakes (with local fancy grade Vermont maple syrup, of course) or an asparagus or other special omelet -- all cooked especially for you.  After this breakfast, you'll be able to skip lunch!
